Cairo struggled to his feet against the wind and swirling sand. He chased after the spinning bundles.

He spent all night tracking them down. He grabbed one after another with his sharp teeth and nosed them back until he had gathered them all into a large heap.

As the storm blew over and the Sun rose in the sky, Cairo stayed awake, guarding the pile.

The curious jackals, who were always ready to grab anything for themselves, came sniffing around.

“I’ll take this,” said one jackal.

“And I’ll have this one,” said another, as it started to paw at the heap.

“No!” said Cairo. “Stay away!” He opened his mouth wide to show a set of sharp and dangerous teeth.
